GraphRAG

A RAG approach that organizes knowledge as a graph of entities and relationships, so answers can follow connections across documents.

Standard RAG retrieves passages that look similar to the question. GraphRAG additionally extracts entities (people, companies, cases, products) and the relationships between them into a knowledge graph, and uses that structure during retrieval.

This helps with questions about connections and aggregates, such as which decisions cite a given precedent or which suppliers are linked to a risk, that are hard to answer from isolated text chunks.

Building and maintaining the graph adds cost and complexity, so GraphRAG is worth it when relationships are central to the questions users ask.
