Human-in-the-loopHITL

A design in which an AI system pauses for a person to approve, edit or reject an action before it takes effect.

Human-in-the-loop design keeps people in control of consequential decisions: sending messages, moving money, changing infrastructure, publishing content. The AI does the preparation; a human makes the call.

It is most reliable when built into the system's control flow, as a real pause in the agent graph or workflow, rather than as an instruction in the prompt. The rejection paths deserve as much testing as the happy path.
